LIES

Our discussion is about the “LIES” we hear over and over in our heads - and what impact they have on our lives.
What lies have affected you?

Anyone interested in a new LTG?

Hi everyone!

My name is Leticia and I’m somewhat new to the Journey. I started attending one year ago and then took a break for the last six months. Now I’m back for good and want to start an LTG. I was wondering if anyone was interested in being in the group with me? I was thinking meeting on Saturday’s or Sunday’s depending on what works for everyone. And we can alternate each time we meet too. If you’re interested, either leave a message on here and/or call me at (408) 504-9720. Have a great Monday!

~Leticia

What to Expect on a Sunday

There are a few areas of the website that are still lacking in information specifically directed at someone looking to checkout the Journey. Over the next few weeks lets dialog around some specific missing nuggets and see what we can hammer out.

What could someone expect if they were to come Sunday morning to the Journey?

Church, Why Bother?

A very close friend of mine sent me this a few weeks back. I thought it might be interesting reading since the Journey did a series and video on this topic that proved quite insightful.

Why Go To Church? OR, Church, Why Bother?

If you’re spiritually alive, you’re going to love this! If you’re spiritually dead, you won’t want to read it. If you’re spiritually curious, there is still hope!

Hiking Group

Welcome to the hiking group! Great people, great scenery, great conversations (some even with God Himself). We welcome your suggestions for future hikes or other outdoor activities.

May Hike:

Saturday, May 17th @ 9:00am, Uvas Canyon County Park
There are 3 options: a 1 mile nature hike a 3.2 mile loop or 5.3 mile longer trek. We can all decide on one when we get there or break into groups. All of them visit a series of waterfalls in this secluded canyon park.
Getting there:
Almaden Expressway about 5 miles to the end of Almaden Expressway, and turn right onto Harry. Almost immediately, turn left onto McKean. McKean turns into Uvas Road after about 6.5 miles. Continue on Uvas for another 3.7 miles, then turn right onto Croy (there's a brown county park sign before the turnoff). Drive about 3.8 miles to the park entrance at the end of the road. NOTE: the last 0.4 mile or so of Croy passes through the Swedish private community of Sveadal. That stretch of road is very narrow, so drive slowly. If you would like to carpool please email me we can meet at the Starbucks at Home Depot Capitol Expressway.
Trailhead details:
$5 entrance fee (self register at automated kiosk). Continue past the entrance station to the signed day use parking lot, just up the road and around the corner, on the right. Parking for about 34 cars. There are a few designated handicapped spots. Restrooms and drinking water just past the west edge of the lot. Maps (click here for trail map) at the entrance station, and at the beginning of the waterfall loop this is where we will meet. Dogs on leash welcome. Contacts:

looking for reliable baby sitter(s)

Hi All:

We’re relatively new to the Journey (Since Jan. 08). We have 3 children—twin boys who are 8 and a daughter who will be 4 in July. I’m looking to get hooked up with a reliable teen (sophomore yr. or older) or adult who could do some evening baby sitting for us. My husband and I would like to try to get regular “date nights” to be a part of our life.

Please call me at (408)307-2771 if you or someone you know is interested.

Thanks,

Maureen Bragger

New Forum Topic for the Journey Website

I posted this comment yesterday under the Forum Topic: “Just For Fun”. However, I probably should have placed this excerpt here instead. My fault, but thanks in advance should you choose to add something to the website. Kent

I would like to propose that the Journey Talk in Church web site create and entirely new Forum Topic entitled: “Good News”. My rationale behind this is quite simple. Each of us have some very Amazing Grace Events taking place in our lives as we Journey together (by the grace of our wonderful God) through Life.

Let's All Read More Good News!

I would like to propose that the Journey Talk in Church web site create and entirely new Forum Topic entitled: Good News. My rationale behind this is quite simple. Each of us have some very Amazing Grace Events taking place in our lives as we Journey together (by the grace of our wonderful God) through Life. To this end I am submitting a very touching true story that was sent to me by my very dear old friend Denise Wirtz in a suburb just south of Chicago, IL. So, here it is:

A DAD’S STORY

So, Now What?

The past few weeks we’ve discussed what Jesus’ intentions for His Church were, looked at what the Bible says, and probed into all the reasons people don’t bother with church.

So… now what?

What are the implications for us personally? What difference does it make if people don’t see the same value in church as you do? What about the Journey as a whole? How does what we heard these past few weeks make a difference?

Paradox wk2 - LOVE HATE GOD

Sunday we will deal with one of the most difficult paradoxes of all: How does a loving God who offers grace, forgiveness, and heaven ALSO be a righteous God bringing judgement and hell? Is the God described in the Old Testament really the same God described in the New Testament?

What do you think?
What questions do you have?

Owner of SGK Window (next to office) died in parking lot

I just drove by the Journey office and there were about 10 people mourning the passing of the owner of SGK windows. There were flowers placed around a ‘burn’ spot in the asphalt, at the end of the parking lot.
I don’t want to try and spell his name, but please pray to bring peace to those in his family and his life.

Paradox wk1 - Upside down

Jesus showed us that things are upside down in His Kingdom.
What is your reaction to:

But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:44-45

“It is more blessed to give than to receive” Acts 20:35

“Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else” Mark 9:35

Paradox

Jesus showed us that things are upside down in His Kingdom. The first shall be last, the greatest are servants, we give and find that we’re receiving.

The paradoxes of the Christian faith can be seemingly contradictory statements that leave us scratching our heads and wondering, “huh?”

Come get confused with us in April.

International Impact Team

The International Impact Team exists to fill a gap between the Journey Church and marginalized and impoverished communities. The mission of the team is to share the Journey’s spiritual, human, and financial resources with international communities suffering from poverty, oppression, and injustice.

The active ministries of the International Impact Team include:

* Step Up Honduras: Tim and Jaclyn Horan are currently raising support to serve as long-term missionaries in Honduras. For more information, visit their website at: http://stepuphonduras.org/.

* Limpopo Area Development Program, Zimbabwe: Through World Vision’s C2C Program, The Journey Church is supporting children, communities, and churches in the Limpopo region of Zimbabwe. Limpopo is an area that has been devastated by the AIDS pandemic, severe economic hardship, and recent droughts. Families from the Journey are sponsoring 100 children living in the region. Sponsorship dollars are used to bless the lives of children by transforming their communities from places of poverty and despair to places of hope and opportunity. To learn more about Limpopo and child sponsorship opportunities, email Jason Jones at jjones@rbf.com.

* AIDS Caregiver Kits: Every 14 seconds, a child loses a parent to AIDS. World Vision has organized a vast network of local volunteers to provide care and comfort for those suffering from the disease. But these caregivers lack even the simplest items needed to prolong lives and comfort the sick. The Journey supports caregivers by assembling caregiver kits, which contain basic medical supplies and medications, such as rubber gloves, cotton balls, washcloths, and anti-fungal cream.

For more information about the International Impact Team, including ways to get involved, email Jason Jones at jjones@rbf.com.
