Psalms in the Psun

in

Under trees … branching,
Green leaves … reaching,
Worship God … singing,
God speaks … listening,
My life through Him … never ending.

Ideas for Breaking out of the Mold

in

We talked this past Sunday about being a saferous church. Here are a few of the posted ideas that centered around breaking out of the mold.

  • More outdoor services at different locations
  • On a Sunday morning, we have one combined gathering…then, we pray as a group and ask God to show us what to do as a church to obey him. Then we organize as a church to do what he tells us.
  • Listen to what people want to talk about
  • Throw out time restraints
  • Ask the children what to do - they aren’t civilized yet

Ideas for Risking Comfort

in

We talked this past Sunday about being a saferous church. Here are a few of the posted ideas that centered around risking our comfort.

  • Another church plant
  • Go clean another church’s facility
  • Admit and confess our sins to one another
  • …bring God up in normal business conversations.
  • Call [her] and let her know I am religious
  • Admit anger towards God

Do you like any of these? Are any of these safe or are they dangerous?
If yours wasn’t included or got misrepresented, speak up!

Ideas for being a safe place for the community

in

We talked this past Sunday about being a saferous church. Here are a few of the posted ideas that centered around being a safe place for the community.

  • When you have new people sitting beside [you] that you have not met, make them feel welcome.
  • Invite the homeless over for dinner.
  • [Focus community impact days on] a ministry
  • Go to local homeless camps, get in the trenches, and work with the homeless until the camps are empty.

Do you like any of these? Are any of these safe or are they dangerous?

Thoughts about Colossians

in

Before Sunday, we would love to hear some reflections from Journey folks:
What has been meaningful to you from our study of Colossians Chapters 1-3 ??

Pens

in

I was pleased the pens were used one Sunday, but disappointed to see in my typo - the repeat of the word ‘that’ on the pens. Though the typo is unfortunate, I was hoping they would still be used.

Are they not going to be used at all?

What do you value, really?

in

Frances heard a little tidbit about belief recently in a Menlo Park Pres podcast:

There are things you say you believe
Then there are things you think you believe
And finally there are things that you show or reveal you believe.

The connotation being, of course, that actions speak louder than words. Furthermore, actions even trump intention or what we’d like to be true in terms of belief.

Keeping up with the Joneses

in

To answer Jeff’s question from this morning:

According to The Encyclopedia of Word and Phrase Origins by Robert Hendrickson, the origin of this phrase is rooted in the popular comic strip of the same name created by cartoonist Arthur R. “Pop” Momand. The strip debuted in 1913, ran in American newspapers for 28 years, and eventually was adapted into books, films, and musical comedies. The “Joneses” of the title were neighbors of the strip’s main characters, and were spoken of but never actually seen in person.
