Ideas for Breaking out of the Mold

in

We talked this past Sunday about being a saferous church. Here are a few of the posted ideas that centered around breaking out of the mold.

  • More outdoor services at different locations
  • On a Sunday morning, we have one combined gathering…then, we pray as a group and ask God to show us what to do as a church to obey him. Then we organize as a church to do what he tells us.
  • Listen to what people want to talk about
  • Throw out time restraints
  • Ask the children what to do - they aren’t civilized yet

B.Y.O.B. Sunday

What do you value, really?

in

Frances heard a little tidbit about belief recently in a Menlo Park Pres podcast:

There are things you say you believe
Then there are things you think you believe
And finally there are things that you show or reveal you believe.

The connotation being, of course, that actions speak louder than words. Furthermore, actions even trump intention or what we’d like to be true in terms of belief.

  3. vote for you favorites with the ‘+’ or ‘-‘

Following Leah's lead...

in

A few weeks ago, Leah brought a powerpoint presentation showing how she connects with God.

I’m wondering if there are others who have an expressive way they’ve connected with God. If so, are you willing to bring something that symolizes that practice this Sunday?

a photo, a song, written pieces, a display… anything that’s been meaningful for you.

Sunday, October 21st we broke out into smaller discussion groups. We barely scratched the surface of our question:

Is God trying to connect with me? How can I look for that?

Thought we could continue the dialogue here:

Unconference- Encouraging a Spiritual Experience

in

Unconference- October 7, 2007
Group A: Things to do to encourage a spiritual experience at The Journey
*How can we make an environment that encourages spiritual connections?
*What works for people?

1) Deeper allowed spiritual connections
a. Deeper- A 2 hour worship experience that dived deeper into the word, had communion
What if every service was like that?
Ideas: Maybe have something like this on a Saturday to foster spiritual connections on Sunday

2) Does a “Deeper” type experience overwhelm new people?
