Benedict - Monk #1
Series:
Modern Day MonkDate:
July 5, 2009How can we take the compelling aspects of a focused, vibrant, and disciplined spiritual life and bring that into our modern day lives? It’s time to embrace the monastic calling and consider how it might increase our sense of spirituality in our busy world. Are you ready to experience something that has effectively shaped spiritual lives for centuries?
This first week, we’ll look at the life of St. Benedict and his monastic order. Be prepared to be challenged.
Immediately following the service, we’ll have a brief all church picnic on the patio area at Pioneer High School.
Food: Hot Dogs, chips, soda. Bring a few $$ to help cover that cost.
Fun: Bounce House, Kid games, watermelon eating competition, music, and time together.

New Monasticism
Here’s a Christianity Today article on The New Monasticism.

Let us consider how we may blog and tweet one another on toward love and good deeds.
Good article
I love the new monasticism’s commitment towards serving the poor and homeless. Sure we do that in Community Impact Efforts, but it’s not a consistent day to day part of what we do. What would be a next step for us?
I’ve been brainstorming about using some of our community impact money to help people who are unemployed. It’s cooking right now.
WOW
What a great article, it makes you think!
Jeff I would like to cook
Jeff I would like to cook with you on that. Have some good ideas that we have talked about but other that we have not.
