Does It Really Matter 2010Date:
January 17, 2010Does Structure Matter?
Well, in physical things like bridges, buildings, and airplanes - absolutely.
In organizations like government, education, and even sports teams - absolutely.
How about in a church? Should a church have a structure? does it matter? what does the Bible say?
Sunday, we’ll discuss how to have a structure that fosters the direction of our church, handles the difficult situations, but is flexible enough not to be a buried in bureaucracy!

two words - substitutionary atonement - half the gospel
I enjoyed the reduction. I enjoy any simplification that clarifies and teaches. Substitution/atonement is limited to just one of the two words that work for me in how I know Jesus, namely “Lord and Savior.” The savior side [substitutionary atonement] was all His initiative. But the lord side provides the practical solution for daily living—he gives direction, and my initiative/response is required.
And the two aspects, Saviorship and Lordship, work hand in hand—as long as I know that I’m the one that Jesus died for, I have little stress about doing what he asks. He demonstrated love—to me. Then he tells me to share it in the same way. Not really complicated. Seems to work most of the time, too. Jim H.
love it
Hey Jim,
love your response to the simple “substitution atonement’ teaching from last week.
Your comments about “Savior” and “Lord” make total sense to me. My sense it that for many folks - it’s fine to have the “savior” part - but they are not so invested in having the “Lord” part in regards to daily living.
Love your heartfelt response - thanks for posting.
