Basic Life Transformation Group Information
A Life Transformation Group (LTG) is made up of two or three people of the same gender who meet weekly, to read and discuss scripture, share what is happening in their lives, and pray for one another. Usually “spiritual friendships” are formed.
Meet Weekly - Groups should plan to meet one to two hours each week. The group agrees on a time and location for their meeting that fits their schedule. The group does only three things during the meeting. They study and discuss scripture for personal life application listening for guidance from the Holy Spirit, they share what is going on in their lives (particularly regarding the spiritual significance of it), and pray for one another.
Read Scripture - Each group selects a section of the Bible to read through (we suggest the New Testament to start - see the Curriculum download). We have found that selecting a chapter or even a few verses to read and discuss in the LTG can be very fruitful. This helps you “go deeper”.
Listen to the Holy Spirit - Whenever people interact directly with scripture seeking the spiritual truth of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit is present teaching and guiding. LTGs are advised to invite the Holy Spirit and not just let it be a mental exercise, otherwise real spiritual growth will be minimal. The Holy Spirit also convicts us of sin and could lead us to confession of sin to one another, forgiveness and restoration which can take place in this safe LTG environment that values honesty, vulnerability, confidentiality, and grace. (see LTG Guide download)
Pray for One Another - Some time at each meeting is devoted to pray for members of the group, usually during the last 15 minutes. A good method is simply to take turns praying for the person to the right, and this can even be done as a silent prayer with an “amen” said out loud so the other can know your prayer is done. As we all grow in Christ we naturally want to share the good news of Jesus Christ with family and friends and encourage one another to do so.
Suggestions for Getting Started - Individuals forming a group might commit to an LTG for a specified time e.g. 3-6 months. At the end of that time group members may recommit or decide to disband. But we find that many times once a good LTG starts it goes on for years as we form the “spiritual friendships” that are so important to advanced spiritual growth. The important thing to remember when trying to start an LTG is that it’s OK for it not to work out - group chemistry just may not be right - but keep trying and you will find the right group for you. “Seek and you will find”.
Interested in Participating? - LTG’s are led by the Holy Spirit. If you are interested in participating in a group - you can begin your own by asking one or two others to join you.
