Project Details
1. Soldier Care Packages
Doug & Lisa Van Wyk
vw45sj@yahoo.com
We are partnering with Adopt-a-Chaplain to send packages to troop chaplains overseas. The chaplains make special requests so we can personalize the boxes!A great opportunity to thank our soldiers for all they do for us. We are also collecting donations from everyone for the items we will send, not just the packers. So bring some goodies!
2. Backpacks for Kids (JourneyLand)
Kristin Guenther kristin@takethejourney.org 408-489-7170, Julia Blom and Mindy Koenig
We are partnering with the Santa Clara County Department of Family and Children Services to put together backpacks for underprivileged children to use as they start school in the fall. We will also be partnering with Sunday Friends, where we will put together craft kits so underprivileged children can make gifts for nursing home residents, which makes them feel like they are giving back to the community as they develop self-sufficiency.
3. PHS Clean Up
Devon Carlock 408-348-0489 devonboarder@gmail.com
We will be putting shelves into two classrooms of Pioneer High School.
We will be cleaning out and organizing a large storage room.
4. Domestic Violence Shelter
Leah Even, leahann82@gmail.com
We will be going to a 30 day emergency domestic violence sheter for women and their children. We will be installing blinds, painting a bedroom and a small shed, and minor landscaping. We also need two or three people to sign up to take 2 girls who live in the shelter shopping. Their ages are 7 & 9.
5. Manure Movers
Frank Williamson 408.316.6542 lcm4fcw@sbcglobal.net
We will partner with One Step Closer Therapeutic Riding to improve their facilities. They use riding as a tool for improving the lives of individuals with physical disabilities and other special needs. Riding a horse gives a sense of freedom, mobility and accomplishment. We will be building a bridge, shoveling dirt and light landscaping.
6. Blankets for Cancer Patients
Amy Obenour 408-390-7948 amy.obenour@saratogahigh.org
We are partnering with A Single Light, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the access to information for those afflicted with cancer, along with their families, to lessen their suffering through education and service. We will be making blankets for the cancer patients. Sewing experience not required.
7. Prison Ministry
Joelda Burgueno 408 893-9894 joeldaburg@hotmail.com
We will partner with Friends Outside to connect parents in prison with their families through the delivery of gifts. There is such joy in sharing Christ’s love with families who have a mom or dad in prison. We need you to help these families experience the joy and hope of knowing their parents haven’t forgotten them! We’ll provide you with a list of items that each family needs. You will have the opportunity to shop and package the gifts and maybe deliver them. We will also fulfill the inmate’s wish list and include bibles (Spanish Bibles), devotionals, journals, and writing paper.
8. Friends and Worship
Doug Richardson 408.386.8035 pdougrichardson@mac.com
Our team will bring some needed friendship and interaction for people in a Convalescent Hospital in Morgan Hill and then if we have musically gifted people…we’ll lead a worship service for them too. Children are especially appreciated by the residents.
9. C.O.M.E. Food Bank-Painting
Dennis Rawson, dennis@rawson-cabinets.com
Community Outreach Ministry Endeavor (COME ministry) started its most ambitious venture, “Feed the Sheep” in 1985. About 2,000 people receive food from COME each month. They are badly in need of some paint so we will put a-fresh coat of paint in 2 rooms! Saturday Preparation Crew and Sunday Painting Crew.
10. Heritage Home
Danielle Fischer 408- 561-3599 daniellef16@yahoo.com
Heritage Home is a shelter that houses pregnant women at any age throughout their entire pregnancy and 3 months after their baby is born. They provide them with everything they need for themselves and their baby. We will be organizing their basement and doing some much needed landscaping.
11. Sight for Sore Eyes
Campbell MacInnes 369-9209 cmacinnes@macrovision.com
Our team will go back and finish a clean up job around an old run down church building near the arena that is making the neighborhood look bad. We’ll finish the exterior clean up efforts and paint over graffiti. Bring gardening tools.
12. Guadalupe Trail Clean Up
Dale Worster, dale.worster@gmail.com
We will be improving the appearance of a 1.5 mile section of the Highway 87 bike trail. Depending on the number of volunteers, we will either do the project end to end as a single group or split into 2-3 groups to do individual sections. Our goal: picking up trash, cut back some weeds growing onto the bike path and mostly enjoy our day together. The path is paved and will be an easy, safe walk for our group.
If you can’t come on June 29th help us by shopping for or donating needed items!
