i admit, they are not the best indications of what is going on. Those icons came with the theme that i used as a starting point and should be considered temporary. We are in the process of redesigning the logo and look of the Journey so once that happens we’ll propagate that style through the site.

gray - you have read this
regular envelope - normal topic, nothing special
envelope with red thing (push-pin) - a moderator has made the topic “stick” on the top
envelope with unidentifiable weirdness - this is a “hot topic” basically it has a lot of replies.
those are the ones i’ve seen, there might be more.
