ONE Prayer Brainstorm: Special Prayer Events

in

During Sunday’s discussion, We brain-stormed some ideas of how to encourage The Journey community to unite in ONE Heart and ONE Spirit in Prayer like Jesus prayed for in John 17.

Posted below are a few of the ideas - specifically for SPECIAL Prayer events. Please look at this list and “add” to each idea of how it might work…and what would work for you personally.

Hopefully some of these ideas will be supported and developed enough to get started by Journey people.

Special Events / Prayer Times

-Wednesday Morning 6:15am Prayer group @ office
-Special “Deeper” like Prayer Night w/ music and candles (Concert of Prayer)

-Use Sunday mornings to Pray in Unison (Lord’s Prayer or actual pray of Jesus from John 17).
-Use Community Impact Day idea (but pray for organizations in addition to doing work for them).
-Form a PRAYER Team on Community impact Sunday to pray for people

Pictures

Go get pictures of the churches closest to Pioneer High School and then put one picture per Sunday up on the screen… pray for that church.. .or better yet.. call them ahead of time and ask what they would like us to pray for them about.. make that be a regular part of our Sunday mornings?

Or… maybe we take Sunday June 22nd… load up in cars and take a Sunday morning ROAD trip… and go pray for two or three churches in person - like with several hundred of us standing outside their building when they end their worship experience. :)

sooooo, what about...

a Prayer Team option for Community Impact Day? The team could go to churches in the area, one at a time, stand in their parking lot and pray for them and their ministries for 5 or 10 minutes. Then they’d get in the car, go to the next church and do the same. We could have a list that was picked ahead of time and even maybe call each one to ask what we could pray for them. AND it wouldn’t have to be just “Christian” churches, maybe Buddhist, Catholic, Jewish synagogues, etc… What ‘cha think?

unity among the believers

Wow-I think it could really freak some churches out-do all churches need prayer? How about if we ask people to nominate churches they have ties with through friends, relatives, neighbors, or their own past. We could also ask the churches what they would like the Journey Mobile Prayer Team to pray for while we are there!

Concert of Prayer

Wow, Concert of Prayer — I haven’t seen one of those in a long time. Kay & I used to run them. They are a great way to show that praying for say, an hour, can fly by.

Explain

Jon, What is a “concert of prayer”? I’m curious…

Explanation

A Concert of Prayer is a format for corporate prayer, usually in a one- or two-hour event. But instead of those awful prayer meetings that drag on and on with people praying random stuff, it has a structure that keeps things clipping along. Like well-led musical worship, it engages, focuses and teaches.

Here is the central core. There is usually stuff before and after — a chance to prepare, a chance to respond.

Pray for Fullness (awakening in the church):

  • In partners — for personal revival
  • In huddles — for awakening in our local churches and ministries
  • As a whole — for awakening in the Church worldwide
  • Pause to listen to God
  • Musical worship

Pray for Fulfillment (mission among the nations):

  • In partners — for personal ministries
  • In huddles — for outreach and mission in our city
  • As a whole — for world evangelization
  • Pause to listen to God
  • Musical worship

Wednesday at 6:15am

Anyone is welcome any Wednesday in June.
6:15-7:15am (or any part of that time)
High Level Focused Prayer Time at The Journey office. 3801-A Charter Park Court - Suite A, San Jose, 95136.

I know it’s early.. but it’s a great way to start a day!

Good Stuff

Even though it was early—-it was so worth getting up and going to the Journey office for prayer this morning. What a great way to start the day…praying for the Journey, our community, the Church—universal, etc. I was able to start the day praying for others rather than focusing on my own issues. A calm way to start the day within a crazy week.

Hope you can join us next week!

Cocert of Prayer

I’d like to be involved in one of these-can we schedule one?

A dear missionary mentor

A dear missionary mentor taught me years ago to pray part of Paul’s four prayers for the church. They are: Colossians 1:9-10, Ephesians 3:14-19, Philippians 1:9-11 and Ephesians 1:16-19. After praying for our church and the leadership, I extend it to all the churches in San Jose, California, USA and the world. I love praying God’s Word. It does not return void!

Can’t join you at the Journey office, but will be praying from 6:15 - 7:15am at home.
