Do You Pray? How? When? Where? Why?
This morning I journaled my prayer…A way of praying that I had not done for a while. I started thinking and wondering about what others do when it comes to prayer. How are you praying? When do you pray? Do you have an extended prayer/quiet time or do you pray throughout the day? Where do you pray? Do you have a specific place in your home? Why do you pray? Because you were told you had to? Because you want to?
I love hearing about what others are doing. A friend told me she prays as she is driving to work. I tried that…first time I tried that it didn’t go so well…I kept wanting to close my eyes. Not the smartest thing to do when driving. :)
What do you do?

Methods and Moments
My method is to write in my journal the things I’m praying for.. I actually list things I’m praying for each day in two columns - one side family / children the other church matters. This morning as I was driving down a dark, snow covered Michigan road.. I also had a “Mary” Christmas moment - no radio, quiet, sensed God’s presence and felt an eager boost to get back to California. I’m also learning to pray in the moment for the moment and the people I’m with. Let’s all keep exploring prayer… through seasons of life and various personalities - prayer will develop / vary over time.
Mary moment
I often find myself suddenly so grateful for something that I need to take a quick moment to recognize God in it. The other day, I was lying on the floor watching Ryan play and he got up and walked in front of me. He is so big (about 3 feet tall, I measured). And I prayed, Lord, thank you for this little person who just 2 years ago was a little baby who couldn’t even sit up. To see him grow and to think about the little person that he has developed into almost blows my mind. I am so grateful that I just have to stop in that moment, thank God for the gift he has given to me, and let my heart take a picture.
I tell him all the time that I love him and he doesn’t really seem to know what that means, yet. I think about how many people are in the world who don’t have any inkling of the immense love that God has for them as little Ryans and I then pray that they will also learn about the love that only God can bestow upon them.
It is hard for me to pray outside of the moment. When I am experiencing things is when I feel like I have the strongest urge to pray and when I can really pray from my heart.
