Goal
Sufficiently staffed, well-functioning, healthy ministry teams and leaders
Why?
Teams are the primary “engine” that makes the Journey move – a place where people plug in and use their gifts. Currently our teams are smaller than what is needed, with several key “open” leadership positions, and our leaders are continuing to work on personal emotional / spiritual health with reports of doing “too much” in life and ministry.
How can we begin to make this happen more effectively?

A resource coordinator, someone to match people and their gifts to the events.
Keeping events at a manageable size and setting limits for events will keep members from being burnt out. Having a person or group who sets practical and attainable goals for each event will increase our success. Keeping our main goals in mind: Spreading the message, sharing the “good news” and bringing people to Christ.
Increasing the amount of people who want to serve will depend on how they see our current teams, volunteers and staff. Showing positive experiences in serving will help our teams grow. Maybe doing survey specifically for our leaders, teams, volunteers and staff, asking what has their experiences been like while serving at Journey? Review the results and make their input count.
Serving
I realized how important the support for leaders is when I was at the roundtable discussion. Having activities that encourage unity and keep people “up-to-speed” on what is happening in various ministries seems key to me. Supporting one another would be my big concern. Maybe have someone that provides support to leaders as they need it? Someone to help work problems out and get smaller tasks accomplished?
Getting feedback from the leaders is a great idea. The over-commited or burned-out thing is a worry. In a perfect world each leader could have a co-leader or back up person that can help them and switch-off responsibilities. For those that are looking for more help…how about a short little video each week profiling a team in need? I know there was a leadership retreat done in the past. How about little outings to keep everyone connected and take the pressure off?
In the ned, we can’t make people want to serve. We can only show them the great things that have happened because of those that have served. Success stories of a sort.
Leadership Rotation and Mentorship
I appreciated Jason’s comments at the recent Leadership Dinner in terms of leadership rotation (not to get pigeon-holed into a particular leadership role), and building a mentorship program to support this rotation and training of our leaders. Once we healthy and consistent leaders in place, it’d be great to look into this more fully!
