World Vision Partnership (unconference Discussion)
This unconference session was initiated by Shotsy. The purpose of the discussion was to explore ways to enhance our partnership with the World Vision Area Development Program in Limpopo Zimbabwe. The following ideas were discussed:
Provide regular updates during the Sunday Morning Worship Experiences. Ways to do this include reading letters from sponsored children, showing video updates from Zimbabwe, providing updates on the water and sanitation project and updates issues within the community. We could also have a display or table where people could post letters they receive from their children and to get information and updates on the partnership.
Continue to host letter writing parties. Include some time for people to pray for the children and recieve updates about what is going on in the community. Include an activity for young children so that adults can have a focused disucussion and prayer time.
Do the AIDS Caregiver Kit event again.
Promote more ways for people to get involved with World Vision, including volunteer opportunities and the Child Ambassador Program.
Include money from the church budget to support World Vision.
Look for opportunities to serve other organizations, such as the ROCK, which cares for orphanages in Romania.
Explore the role of our church in global missions by taking a Perspectives class.
Look for opportunities for Journeyland and the junior high and high school group to get involved.
Start a group of child sponsors that will get together on a monthly basis to pray for Limpopo and their sponsored children, and brainstorm ideas to futher our relationship.
Have individuals and families from the Journey host holiday parties that raise money to puchase items from the World Vision gift catalogue (such as chickens, health supplies, agricultural equipment, etc.).
Perspectives
Perspectives is a great class that can widen our vision for God’s work in the world. I used to be a Perspectives class coordinator, back in an old life, so if there’s interest (and a group of people who want to do this), I would highly recommend it.
