Sunday AM 8/26 observations
Last Sunday was wonderful in my opinion. I wanted to take the time to list a few things I noticed. Since my family came in shifts I stayed for both meetings.
-
It felt very God honoring in general. I really felt the presence of God.
-
When the music stopped, Vanessa waited until the guitar strings came to rest, then she opened with a brief prayer. It helped me to transition out of my place of worship.
-
Jon and Ted make a great worship combo. While they were playing I saw a vision of the people of God sitting around in a forest under the trees listening to Jesus talking. It was beautiful.
-
Jeff told the Lazarus resurrection story in a cool manner that really pulled people in.
-
I saw the beginings of spontaneous, prophetic worship… when Jon started repeating the lines about the Lamb of God I could feel God breaking through… I actually saw something like a crack opening in a very hard ceiling and God starting to leak through and drip on us. That really got me excited.
-
I did notice that the first meeting seemed fresher and people seemed to tire a bit by the second time around. I know Jeff was starting to lose his voice but he made it all the way through.
-
I loved the announcements in German and French with subtitles… that was wonderful… I could not stop laughing. Humor keeps us from getting too religious and stiff.
-
Rosanna and I noticed a larger number of prayer requests on cards than usual. I always take it as a good sign when people let their requests be know. It tells me people are looking to God for help.
Worship was awesome
As someone who participates in worship, I almost always find it hard to get into a worshipful mindset - I always find myself intellectually analyzing - watching the musicians, etc. This week was awesome. I totally lost myself in the worship, sang and lifted my heart. Great Job.
One thing that I was thinking would be really good would be a group of people who are available after church to specifically pray for people. I know that this is kind of done by Jeff on an ad-hoc basis, but it’s something that I would like to see.

What if we’re just figments of God’s imagination?
people to pray for others after the sun am meeting
That is good news… I agree about the prayer team. I am always available for that btw. The big question I have is how do we identify those folks and how do we work it in the Journey format.? I love doing that kind of thing and have done it for many years. We have a few folks who could do that. We used to wear little green dots at one place (I kind of liked that approach). I wonder if there would be some fun way to do that without some kind of badge… maybe some identifying hat, shirt, or something completely wierd?
worship has an impact
When we have an intense worship time so many good things happen…
Sun great
I agree, Sun was great!
The band had GREAT MUSIC and was REALLY TIGHT. I’ve talked to Vanessa about how we should keep pushing the music to a new level - it is incredibly distracting when the band is making mistakes, doesn’t know where to go, etc. (Yes, I’m on the band and am quite guilty of screwing up!)
Jon and Ted were an excellent guitar combo - solid. Jon’s spontaneous improv energy is really exciting.
Vanessa’s story was awesome. I also wrote her to suggest more such “mini testamonies” to highlight certain songs and make those on the stage more real.
testimonies
Testimonies are powerful.
Spontaneity
It’s hard to be spontaneous twice.
In My Planner
10:47 AM - 11:03 Be Spontaneous
I believe in God because every once in a while, I hear a voice that says, “You’re my favorite.”
spontaneity
yeah… I thought about that during the second meeting… God is not some kind of formula we can plug numbers into and get an expected result. He is consistent but not always predictable.
hey! wait a minute!
jon, was that a nudge to go to one service??
HAHAHHA
Yup
:-)
off the cuff
preachers and worship leaders should plan spontaneity, strange as it sounds. i don’t mean writing “spontaneity” on the flow or “i don’t want to think at all about what i’m going to say before sunday,” but with cultivating a rich relationship with god, learning to listen for the holy spirit and respond. it’s like gaining awareness of the supernatural in everything we do and trusting that there are things we can’t fake or plan when it comes to worship experience.
Planned spontaneity
It’s true: I plan to be spontaneous. I practice it on my own, and have been known to practice it as a band in rehearsal. But still, the first time through the real thing is more dangerous (which I mean as a plus). The second time through, it’s easy just to do what you did the first time (which I mean as a minus).
I am impressed at the way Jeff keeps it real, twice.
Love hearing testemonies!
I agree with Brian about having more testimonies! It is so refreshing to hear what God is doing in people’s lives now.
