The next JGA

in

What classes/subjects/topics would like to see covered in the next Saturday JGA?

Practical Evangelism.

How to approach people. How to talk to them.

Also, a more generic leadership type thing, like… how to be a leader in ministry.

What if we’re just figments of God’s imagination?

Also..

I’m sure this will get posted elsewhere, but the small group on bible beginners came up with the idea of doing a JGA intro to the bible. Things the class could include might be: when the bible was written, the context of why it was written, a good place to start reading (or even a guideline of what sections to read to learn about various teachings), where we can get good self-study books and which books would be most useful (I’m sure there are some really terrible ones out there) for people new to the bible, how the bible is divided, how to access resources when questions come up, etc. Many of us felt so overwhelmed or confused by this massive text that we’ve avoided it completely, or been unable to use if effectively.

Mornings would be great if they came later in the day

Bible for Dummies

Didn’t we do The Bible for Dummies awhile back? I think that some of your suggestions were included in that class but it could be tweaked to add more points of interest. I would actually be interested in learning more basics about the Bible, too. I heard that it was a great book and class.

For those who don’t know what a JGA is, it stands for Journey Growth Academy and is a more intensive class/series of classes that delves into a topic more specifically.

Bible for Dummies

I must have missed that one :( Maybe it was before my time.

Bible for Dummies

Yes, Leah. Bible for Dummies was a class that hasn’t been offered in a while. However, from the many discussions today…I think you will be seeing something like it again but expanded. There’s another post about this somewhere that I just responded to. This group had some great questions and suggestions. (But I can’t remember the title of that specific post).

JGA topics

I would like to see more practical classes on things that will help people to do stuff for God. Some of the classes that have helped me or others close to me were: How to pray for people, pastoral counseling, prophesy, public speaking, women in ministry, cake decorating for all the showers we were giving, guitar 101 for those who want to lead worship in small groups, leading worship, parenting, marriage, communication, how to study the Bible, leading a small group, how to give communion, baptism, sharing your faith (styles, how to, etc.), how to run a Bible study, running sound, etc. Some were one day or evening classes, others went for months one evening a week. Some were taught by Bible college professors who basically used the same content without the tests. The best ones had opportunities to practice what we learned so that we could feel confident when going out in the streets.

Journey Weekend next Summer-JGA topics

In our breakout yesterday where we talked about doing a Journey weekend somewhere that is a cross between retreat and campout, we thought it would be good to focus on a particular topic for the organized portion of this weekend. Perhaps it would be good to link in with this group and see if one of these topics from your group would fit.

don't worry...

bible for dummies is a class that will be offered regularly, especially now that we know people really do want to know this stuff! :-)

how about...

How about a class based on “Practicing His presence”. I have done it before and it went great. Sunday morning it sounded like it is something some are looking for.

Elaborate

Can you elaborate on what you mean a “Practicing His Presence” type class? Thanks
