Corporate Prayer & Fasting--Join Us

So there are many changes and transitions right now at the Journey. A few of us were talking about how in this time, even more than ever, we need to be supporting the church in prayer, spending time in the Scriptures, and fasting. In these disciplines, we can be seeking God’s will and his plan for the Journey, and for us, his church, his body of believers.

In the spirit of getting this moving, we’ve chosen a day for all of us to be doing this on the same day each week. We have four Thursdays until the move to Pioneer. We want to take each Thursday to do three things:

  1. Pray
    Prayers of Thanksgiving
    Prayers of Confession
    Prayers for our constant focus on Jesus
    Prayers to experience God’s heart
    Prayers for our church leaders: Jeff, Vanessa, the elders, Frances
    Prayers for yourself, and your role in the body

  2. Read the same scriptures
    Read the book of Ephesians. Specially for this Thursday, chapters 1 & 2.

Here is a highlight from Chapter 1:

15For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[f] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, 20which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

  1. Fast
    Fasting means many things to many people. It might mean fasting for a day, fasting for a meal, fasting from a favorite pastime or activity, fasting from the phone/computer, fasting from coffee/music/whatever can distract us and fill our time. Pick one and fast from it on Thursday.

Corporate Fasting & Prayer--Week 2

Hi all,

Hope this past Thursday provided a great day of prayer, fasting, and scripture for you. God is moving among us, and using our faithfulness as He moves in the people of the Journey. For this week, continue to pray. Let’s concentrate our prayers on the leadership of the Journey: Jeff, Vanessa, the elders, the SLT. You can, of course, pray for a variety of topics related to the move, just please also include prayers for these people. Pray God would give them wisdom, encouragement, lift them up in times of discouragement, and enable them to encourage others in the process. Pray that they are clear in communicating information about the move and the direction of the Journey.

As a reminder, here are the three aspects of the next few Thursdays…

Hunger and Prayer

This fasting thing is so effective for me… when I’m hungry… I pray. It reminds me…
My prayer begins in my own staying “in the spirit” and connected to Christ so that I may best love, lead, and respond to where people are.. NOT where I want them to be. Right now…I need a higher level of patience and emphathy than what I have naturally.

My prayer continues to the larger church community level… that God would stir up a new passion and “luanch team” mentality in our church. God what are you up to?
