Community Outreach
Hey Everyone. I have a community Impact opportunity that I was hoping some fellow Journeyites would be willing to help out with.
I am a community leader for the Silver Leaf Neighborhood. We have a community Impact project that has already started and we are hoping to recruit some outreach oriented people to help us.
First let me explain what the community project is. The project is called “The Neighborhood Listening Project”. This project is conducted in neighborhoods that have been not been advocated for fairly either by pure neglect of the city or by circumstance. This project allows those residents an opportunity to have a voice and it promotes empowerment through that voice. The Silver Leaf neighborhood has been chosen for this project.
During this process, a coalition of residents are pulled together to create a survey. This survey contains questions that are the primary stepping stones for seeking change and reform within their community. Most topics include, safety, beautification and traffic calming. Once that survey is completed, it is then taken out into the neighborhood through partnering with Community Organizations; such as churches, businesses, or non-profits, City employees, and the NLP coalition. These partners take one day and walk door to door collecting data from other residents within the boundaries of the Community.
Once the Surveys have been completed they are broken down to a report of findings. This information is then Submitted to City Council for review and consideration for implementation.
We are currently looking to for listeners for the Silver Leaf Neighborhood Listening project. As a listener, you would be part of a training and then, on the same day, be paired with another listener to help conduct door-to-door interviews with residents of the Neighborhood.
This is a huge opportunity to show Gods love through just plain old listening. Most of these residents have such frustration over the lack of Commitment and help from the City. They dont feel heard. They feel that what they think or that their general needs are not cared about. If we stepped out to listen to them and their ideas and thoughts, it could be such a transforming time for them in so many ways. And who knows what friends you will make or the people you could be bringing to know Christ.

Thank you so much and blessings for a wonderful weekend ahead.

Aids Relief Event
Just a heads up that I believe the timing will be in conflict with the Journey’s hosting of the big Aids relief event with World Vision. I didn’t see a time posted in this week’s handout, but I think it is in the morning.
