Gordon family Nica trip

in

I am planning a trip to Nicaragua for my family this August. We plan to take a lot of supplies down with us (six of us are going) to give to an orphanage that I visited and a remote indigenous people group in the Atlantic Autonomous Region (Rama Cay) that I have been in regular contact with. We still have room for more items. There is a special need at an orphanage for underwear and clothing for children 1-16 yrs and misc medical supplies. If everything works as planned, I will be bringing solar ovens, fish farming supplies, and a couple donated guitars (for a remote Moravian church at Rama Cay that has no instruments). The Sun Oven company is donating the ovens for cost ($170 each). They are happy to get them into Nicaragua. I sent one oven down already with someone else who was going down for a water purification project. The guitars were a miracle. A man that I met last Christmas in Nicaragua (on Rama Cay) asked me for a guitar. I had no idea how I would get it there and I was uncertain about spending the money to get one. I told him to pray and we would see what God would do. I put the word out to some friends and coworkers and one coworker (not a Christ-follower) donated his (btw he was looking for new job… we prayed together… he was in tears as he felt Christ’s presence… a few weeks later he landed a dream job at Apple) and a friend of mine from our house church got one to send with us. The Lord is faithful. If anyone is interested in helping with anything… underwear, clothes, sun ovens, let me know. If your kids have clean, useable, clothing that they have outgrown… let me know… even if it is just an item or two. I am also looking for a used laptop in good condition for a teacher at Rama Cay.

"indigenous wars" Nicaragua and the Rama people

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaMZFrKDnvU

January 1998

An excellent report that addresses the uncertain future for indigenous Nicaraguans as they fight against their own government and people.

*new* dell laptop donated for the Rama people!

Praise God… a friend of mine who is a teacher on the island of Rama Cay will be elated. He has been praying for one. I asked him how he would charge it and he told me his family had a small generator that they run for a short time in the evening to charge things up and to give some light.

Thanks to those who are contributing supplies

I think the main thing we need now is a lot of nice new underwear and clothing for kids 1-16. There are 130 kids at on of the orphanages we will be going to and 40 at another. We are probably going to be very cautious with our dealings with the Rama people and focus on their school and teachers.

supplies are starting to roll in

Still have room for more children’s clothing items… let me know if you want to help: gordonsrus@yahoo.com
Among many other things… we have three guitars that we are taking… may the Lord bless the guys who polished, restrung, and donated them to our project.

packing our bags

Thanks to everyone who contributed supplies… flying out Wednesday AM with our team of 6 Gordons. Among other things one Nica family I met in a poor neighborhood on an outreach invited us over for a meal with them… this is going to be so cool.

mission accomplished

We met with the people we wanted to meet with and got all the supplies to their intended destinations. We made some new relationships and deepened others. We had some deep political and spiritual conversations with a number of people. I preached and we prayed for people at a Sunday morning meeting at a church in Bluefields with my Rama friend Ervin, translating to spanish (that’s Ervin’s niece is in my profile picture). The Lord is faithful. I believe this trip is only the beginning.

prayer request

Please remember the girl in my profile picture in prayer… Her name is Elithney. She lives on the remote island of Rama Cay in Nicaragua. I met her and her mother on our family trip and on the trip I took in 2007. Her father is on drugs and addicted to alcohol and has been beating her and her mother. Her grandmother was worried for them and asked for us to pray. We prayed together with the girl and her mother.
